I have been in 'voluntary exhile' in the UK for the best part of 30 years. I have never stopped yearning to go home. I will be doing so soon. Reading this incredibly honest, rational and optimistic speech by St Stithians headmaster, brought tears to me eyes. I feel deeply moved that there are so many people who feel passionately about SA, enough to make a positive contribution, enough to stay.
There is no better place to go to. each country has its problems. Each problem requires adjustment and tolerance and understanding to be able to live in this place or that.
I would like to say to any readers who may be wondering about leaving SA: what you will be giving up is a feeling of connection with the essence of who you are: your home, your belonging to the land, the climate, the natural wonders of that beautiful country. You will also lose touch with your unique culture, traditions and way of life. These things only become painfully felt when you move away. You become a stranger in someone elses country. Your essential companion is "difference." After 30 years of working as a doctor here in England, I am still seen and treated as different...and I feel isolated in the essence of who I am. When I visit SA, even briefly, I am joyful, relaxed, and at peace. I smile, laugh and feel free again to be me!
Stay and make South Africa work for you. It is an awesome country, and I will be there soon to make my contribution.

Thanks for the effort with this website. We need to nurture more of the positive about our country. I am currently the commander of South African soldiers in the DRC and am continually looking for positivity. I will definately be visiting your website more often.

Take care

Great speach,

The youth need to be constantly reminded of the beutiful country in which they live, the priveledges they enjoy each country has its trials and tribulations, be part of the solution. Each indvidual acting positively, responsibly and caringly can make a difference. Take a look around see the good and act against the bad. Be responsible for your actions and decisions.
